OPERATING HOURS Mon-Thu : 9am to 6pm

USAGE POLICY All new users are required to submit an application form. Training All new users are required to attend a free training or orientation before being allowed to operate the microscopes independently. Users have a choice of bringing their own samples or just coming as a group (max 3) to have a hands-on session with an in house sample. Subsequent bookings will be charged at user operated rates. Users who have not completed the training session will be charged the more expensive staff operated rate.
Use of the microscopes is by appointment only. Please call 6516 6306 or email Ms Hu Xian to make bookings. Each user is only allowed to book a maximum of 3 hours per week. Users who have made excessive booking may be asked to give up some of their slots for other users. Exceptions are made for users with special requirements(e.g Live imaging). Minimum chargeable and booking duration is 30 minutes. Users are charged for all hours booked plus any extension of usage.
Cancellations Cancellations should be made as early as possible. If a booking is not cancelled 1 hour in advance of booked slot,mthe full hours booked plus a $20 fine. The service charges will be waived ONLY if there is a valid and reasonable reasons for the cancellation. Excuses like forgetting to cancel, forgetting about the booking is NOT an valid and reasonable excuse. Note to users: Please understand that if you don't need the slots, other users may need it urgently (to graduate or obtain data for publication).
Penalties Users who are late for more than 30min without informing CMU staff may have their slot cancelled and given to other users on the waiting list. They will still be charged the full hours booked plus a $20 fine. Users may be banned from the CMU if they repeatedly: 1) Abuse
the microscopes (e.g. do not clean oil objectives, install unauthorized
software on the confocal computers)
Users need to prepare suitable controls for their own imaging experiments. No meaningful or correct and accurate interpretation of images or acquisition settings adjustment can be done without them NEVER EVER look directly at the laser!!! (The lasers will damage your eyes!)Use the correct immersion medium for it's respective objective and clean the oil objectives or wipe the water lens after use. Do not switch back and forth between Oil objectives and air objectives without wiping the oil away from the oil objectives first Do not operate the microscopes with contaminated gloves Inform the lab officers of any spills that occurred in the unit. Remove all your items from unit after use. Inform the lab officers in advance of any live cell imaging to be done. If you have any doubts when operating the machines, DO ASK, we are ready to help. |
